ECPM and the Council of Europe call on European youth to mobilise against the death penalty

To the attention of young volunteers, students or active members of civil society: ECPM and the Council of Europe are organizing a workshop "Advocacy and awareness-raising for the abolition of the death penalty" from 1 to 4 June 2023. Are you a student of law, journalism, political science, communication, arts, education, humanities or a civil society actor with a strong interest in human rights? ECPM and the Council of Europe offer you the opportunity to participate in a unique experience involving the commitment of young citizens who wish to contribute to the process of universal abolition of the death penalty: the opportunity to take part in a medium-term project with other young people in Europe for the universal abolition of the death penalty.

A workshop tailored to …

  • Strengthen your theoretical knowledge of the abolition of the death penalty (abolitionist arguments, situation in the world, etc.)
  • discover or deepen your mastery of advocacy and action methods (social networks, mobilizing the general public, networking, etc.)
  • collaborate with committed and creative students and young activists in Europe
  • understand the techniques of collaborative project construction
  • engage in an enriching human and solidarity experience
  • contribute to the mission of the Council of Europe in favour of human rights, democracy and the rule of law
  • live an intercultural co-creation experience at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg

Conditions of participation:

  • You are a citizen and reside in a member country of the Council of Europe
  • You are between 18 and 30 years old
  • You are fluent in English and/or French
  • You are available from 1 to 4 June 2023 and can travel to Strasbourg (travel and accommodation costs in Strasbourg will be fully covered by the organizers)

To apply, go before May 8, 2023 on this online platform and attach a link to a video (1′ maximum) to briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your motivation! (optional but highly recommended)

ECPM and the Council of Europe thank you for your interest in this project and hope that you will be part of the new generation of abolitionists who will play a decisive role in the evolution of a responsible society concerned with the respect of fundamental rights. Candidates who are not selected to participate in the workshop will be able to follow the work of their “national delegation” and participate in the advocacy actions that will follow in their country and in the world, via the social networks of the Council of Europe.
