The “Love is not a crime campaign”
As part of the ‘Love is not a crime’ campaign, ECPM published a report entitled ‘10 questions to better understand the death penalty for LGBTQIA+ people’, which was recently updated with data from 2024.
This report is based on an analysis of the political, legal and socio-cultural contexts of states that criminalise consensual sexual relations between people of the same sex. Since 2023, Uganda’s legislative arsenal has been strengthened by an anti-homosexuality law, increasing the number of states that apply the death penalty to LGBTQIA+ people to 12 (Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Yemen).
The very existence of these laws constitutes a danger for members of the LGBTQIA+ community (trials without adequate defence, non-existent access to medical treatment for trans people, criminalisation of relationships between consenting adults, etc.).
ECPM at the heart of the Paris Pride
ECPM has been taking part in the Paris Pride March since 2005, in particular to support members of the LGBTQIA+ communities around the world. Once again this year, despite the heat, ECPM was present throughout the procession to defend the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. Thanks to a more assertive visual identity and the unfailing mobilisation of around twenty people including staff members, volunteers, interns and ECPM partners, awareness-raising work was able to take place in this festive and activist event.
The balloon in the shape of a world map and the recently updated communication materials aroused the public’s curiosity and raised awareness of local realities in each of the states concerned by the campaign.

Finally, ECPM’s participation in this Pride was essential to denounce and inform about the reality of the risks faced by foreign nationals who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as the profound violation of the rights of LGBTQIA+ people in these states, which has continued to increase in recent years.
