CPJP advocates for a world without the death penalty. It works with partner organisations, volunteers, interns and our board of directors to develop legal and policy solutions on the death penalty that will save lives. CPJP was founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2001 by criminal lawyers Richard Bourke and Nick Harrington to provide legal representation and humanitarian assistance to people at risk of execution. Despite ECPM's regional perspectives, CPJP's Australian base offers strategic advantages as it has identified the abolition of the death penalty as one of its priority areas in human rights. There is much to be done to ensure that Australia becomes a leading voice in abolition.
